The Greene County schools will continue to have the activities director and the head football coach one and the same. At a special meeting June 8, after discussion, the board voted unanimously to hire Mitch Moore as part-time AD at a salary of $38,819.
Moore was hired in March as head football coach to replace Dean Lansman, who resigned that position. His coaching contract is for $6,788.
Lansman taught high school science and was part-time AD. He resigned those positions in early May.
Superintendent Tim Christensen pointed out that there is no increased cost to the district in hiring Moore as AD, as that salary he will be paid is the same as Lansman’s AD salary.
Moore is not a teacher and will not have teaching duties.
The AD is responsible for supervising and evaluating all coaches. Some parents have expressed concern in the past couple of years about having a head coach in that position.
The board expects to consider hiring Moore as a weight training coach at the June 21 regular meeting. That also is not a new position but was previously held by phys. ed. teacher Richard Beeler. If Moore is hired as weight training coach, his total compensation from the district would be $54,658.
Additionally, it was announced at a Greene County Development Corporation meeting Tuesday that the Greene County Youth Athletic Association will purchase The Fieldhouse from owner Jeff Schroeder, who is relocating. GCYAA intends to hire Moore as trainer at The Fieldhouse. Training at The Fieldhouse will e available to athletes as young as kindergarten.
